Hi all
Only SEVEN days left to get your entries in for my Long Exposure Competition. I have a good number of entries but would love to see more.
So what are YOU waiting for? Long exposures can be in any category and certainly don't need to be taken outside at night. They can be as simple as turning the lights off in a room and letting yourself go wild with some lights or sparklers for example. Go on. Get to it. Details of the comp are as follows.
LONG EXPOSURE PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
Pretty simple really. Open up those shutters, let your creativity flow and show me the results. Competition is open to all my watchers and is for new images taken between the 5th of October and Midnight on the 30th of November (Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time). Entries can be in any DA photography category. Please see below for all the rules and read them carefully before submitting your image.
What constitutes a long exposure? For the purpose of this competition, I will define a long exposure as any exposure longer than one second.
THE PRIZES
The following three prizes will be awarded to images as selected by me. I will be looking for things like technique, composition, creativity and images that best exemplify or make the best use of the theme "Long Exposure."
First Place:
- 12 Month Premium Membership to DA.
- An unframed 12inch by 18inch print of "The Sentinel"
- Featured by
Runner Up:
- 3 Month Premium Membership
- Featured by
Second Runner Up:
- 3 Month Premium Membership

Leasha's Choice:
Leasha Hooker has very kindly offered to donate a 3 Month Premium Membership, so I will be getting Leasha to select her favorite entry. If Leasha selects an image which has also won one of the other prizes then her prize will simply be added to it.
Encouragement Award:
I will also be selecting one entry to receive a kind of photography mentor program. I will correspond with you to help improve your photography and show you how I take and process my photos.
If anyone would like to feature the winning images in their own journals please let me know in a note or by commenting on this journal and I will add you to the prize list.
RULES
It must be your own work and a new image taken between the 5th of October and Midnight on the 30th of November (Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time) with the date either in the exif data or in the description.
Images must have an exposure time of at least 1 (one) second with exif data intact or shot settings detailed in the description.
NO nudity or other mature content. Images must be able to be viewed by all ages.
You must be one of my watchers to enter.
Submissions are limited to 2 (two) per person.
No DA watermarks.
Entries will be judged from the 1st of December with the winner(s) notified and announced/featured shortly after.
Judges decision is final.
How to enter
Take your long exposure shot(s).
Upload to DA making sure that exif data is intact or that you have provided the shot settings and date taken in a description.
Either send me a note or comment on this journal with a link to the picture(s).
If it satisfies all the criteria, I will then collect the images in my "Long Exposure Competition" favorites folder.
So that is it. I look forward to the entries. Happy shooting and good luck.
I'll once again leave with a bit of shameless self promotion.....

Timelapse Video
Hello all
I'm still alive. I know I have not been very active here lately. My daytime work has been ridiculously busy for the past month or so and that wont change for the foreseeable future. Still, could be worse I guess......
Just wanted to pop in briefly to announce that I have completed my first ever timelapse video. If you have followed my work for a while you will know that one of my favorite places to go and image the night sky from is Mt Buffalo near where I live in Australia. I recently put together a collection of timelapse sequences from Mt Buffalo that I have gathered over the past few years. This is my first go at pu
6th Daily Deviation and why I might leave DA
Hello all,
Finally have a little bit of time to catch up on all things DA. It was a great surprise to receive my 6th Daily Deviation a couple of weeks ago for my image "Before The Storm"
I once again must give a huge  and a big THANK YOU to the legendary Nancy `Anoya (https://www.deviantart.com/anoya) for featuring the image and an equally big thanks to :iconRazielMB: for suggesting it.
On a sour note, I am so disappointed in how DA displayed my last image "Burning The Midnight Oil" that I am thinking about leaving here for good. For someone who almost shoots exclusively night time images where subtle shadow detail is important for the overall feel of the
5th Daily Deviation and Interviews
Hello all
After basically pulling an all nighter last night taking images and conducting a night sky photography workshop, I woke up at lunchtime today to discover a very pleasant surprise. I have been awarded my 5th Daily Deviation for my image "Taste The Rainbow"
Huge thanks must go to ~Laurelin-CosPlay (https://www.deviantart.com/laurelin-cosplay) for suggesting the image and the legendary Nancy :iconAnoya: for featuring it as a DD
It is quite surprising to me how much this image has been accepted by the public, both on here and elsewhere on the net. For a long time I hesitated to even upload it as I thought it was just another standard "Milkyway Bow" image that are a

Also, Whilst I have you. The Light Inspired Group %LightInspired (https://www.deviantart.com/lightinspired) through its sister group :iconPhoto-Contest: is holding another Nature Photo Contest which starts in a couple of weeks time. I will once again be on the judging panel and there are some amazing software packages up for grabs as prizes. You hav
